Cabinet Sales Decrease 18.9% in May
( July, 11 2008 )


RESTON, VA — According to participating members in the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Assn. (KCMA) monthly Trend of Business Survey, cabinet sales for May 2008 decreased 18.9% compared to sales for May 2007. Stock cabinet sales decreased 20.0%, semi-custom sales decreased 15.9% and custom sales decreased 26.5%.

The year-to-date sales show a decrease of 12.8%, with stock sales down 20.2%, semi-custom sales down 5.6% and custom sales down 11.5%.

Survey participants include stock, semi-custom and custom companies whose combined sales represent over 50% of the United States cabinet market. KCMA is a trade association for manufacturers of kitchen cabinets and bath vanities, and suppliers of goods and services to the industry.

Lots of doom and gloom and recession talk. I know the figures don't lie but anyone who has been in the industry since the 80's knows that we have been here before. (Not to mention - there is typically a downturn in summer months - no matter what the economy).
The article is informative (thanks for posting) and I'd love to see more finds by fellow members - staying on top of things is key- but perhaps we need to use this information in a positive fashion. The more people putting projects on hold only means that there will be a larger demand later.
